About/News
Angela Esteve is an English born artist based in the Washington DC area.
Initially a portraitist, she then moved into abstraction by shredding her original work then reconstructing it anew into collages.
Her current signifier, “painting with paper,” actually transcends her previous traditional genres of painting or collage by building forms with scores of colored images.
The process starts every morning at breakfast time cutting out portions of the Financial Times newspaper, a humble everyday throwaway material, soon to be upcycled into a new form of artistic expression.
The cultural diversity of the medium becomes condensed into final works whereby palettes of color and images are juxtaposed in ways to create transformative visual and conceptual effects.
The perimeters she establishes with only one size of canvas and limited palettes yields a series of stories, intricate, seamless and societal in nature.
From afar or up close the viewer is invited into the work on a never-ending personal journey of discovery paved with a multitude of referenced snippets.
Studio
Angela has been active in several art communities in England and France as well as in the Washington DC area. Some of these include the Yellow Barn, Washington Artworks, Washington Studio School, the Jackson Art Center, Pyramid Atlantic and American University.
Her work has been featured in the Washington Post, “Galleries and Art Spaces” section.
She currently works and exhibits in studio 333 at the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria, VA and the unhurried nature of her practice allows her to frequently interact with the public.
